Voice Lessons
Through my family’s academic tutoring and educational enrichment service DesBois Tutoring & Enrichment, I offer private singing lessons in Topsfield, Massachusetts. I draw from my background as a singer, actor, storyteller, and teacher to give both a technical training in classical vocal technique and coaching on how to tell a compelling story through song.
Classical vocal training gives a singer the best possible foundation for enjoying and excelling at a wide variety of singing styles. Songs from German and English oratorio, European opera, German Lieder, art songs, and classic American musical theater form the basis of my lessons. Through the songs of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, and others, students enjoy immersing themselves in beauty, excitement, drama, wit, and musical genius while developing invaluable skills for any performance environment.
Rates for voice lessons start at $60/45-minute session. Lessons take place at DesBois Tutoring & Enrichment’s Topsfield location, or another mutually convenient space. I work with beginner or intermediate students, elementary school age to adult.
Please contact me to learn more or to schedule a lesson: [email protected] or (978)887-3133

About Jack
As a performer, I have put my own classical training (BA Music from Middlebury College) to use as an ensemble member and soloist in opera, oratorio, and musical theater. Professional credits include Handel’s Esther (Haman) and Messiah (Bass solo), Bach’s St John Passion (Jesus), Puccini’s Tosca (Sciarrone, Jailer), and Verdi’s Macbeth (Assassin). Amateur musical theater credits include RENT (Mark), Ragtime (Tateh), and Into the Woods (Wolf). My classical foundation has also served me well as an entertainer singing jazz standards at an elder day center, as a bass in school and church choirs, as a folksong scholar and performer, and as an acoustic guitar singer-songwriter.
I began teaching the performing arts over a decade ago, giving my first private voice lessons to eighth grade students in a production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella during a post-high-school teaching internship in 2011. Since then, I’ve worked as a director (including a college production of RENT and a community musical revue of Irving Berlin songs) and taught musical theater camps for school-age children. I have taught Shakespeare as performance (including the Bard’s songs) for students ages 8 to 21, and I've completed one year of Mary Baldwin University’s MLitt Shakespeare & Performance in collaboration with the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia.
Since 2020, I have been working with my three siblings to develop DesBois Tutoring & Enrichment, an academic tutoring and educational enrichment service for families looking to complement or supplement their children’s schooling, or seeking help implementing homeschool curricula. In addition to private voice lessons, I offer several performing arts-based educational enrichment programs for schools, homeschool groups, and organizations, as well as one-on-one academic tutoring.
